THE SUMMER CHORAL INSTITUTE
Join our distinguished faculty for a week-long program of intensive choral and solo vocal training. Enjoy the camaraderie and adventure of creating great music together while forging lasting friendships. Strengthen your voice and musicianship through small group sessions, workshops, individual voice lessons, large group rehearsals, and more! The Institute is produced through a partnership between the National Philharmonic and Montgomery College and is open to students entering grade 9 thru graduating grade 12. The week will culminate in a final concert, held with the National Philharmonic's Summer Chorale, at Richard Montgomery High School.
The faculty of the Institute includes Stan Engebretson, Artistic Director of the National Philharmonic Chorale and Co-Founder of the Institute; Molly Donnelly, Professor of Music at Montgomery College and also Co-Founder of the Institute; Ronald Frezzo, Vocal and International Baccalaureate Music Instructor at Richard Montgomery High School; Victoria Gau, Assistant Conductor of the National Philharmonic; and Theodore Guerrant, Accompanying Program Specialist at the University of Maryland School of Music.
Experience in a school, church or community choir, or study with a private voice teacher is required. Scores will be provided beforehand to give participants a chance to study them and learn the music in advance.
Highlights from the summer institute include works by popular contemporary American composer Eric Whitaker, plus exciting world music from Germany, Spain, and South America. Together with the Summer Chorale, the Institute chorus also will perform folksongs and spirituals, Vaughan-Williams' Serenade to Music, Mozart's Te Deum,and Gloria from Missa Celtica by John Cameron.

The 2010 Summer Choral Institute will be held from July 19 to July 23, 2010, in the Music Building at the Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 to 8:30 pm daily. Tuition for the week is $200 (which includes a $50 deposit). Tuition covers all music and administrative costs. Some financial assistance is available - please inquire.

THE SUMMER CHORALE
Adult singers (college age and over) from around the area are invited to sing with members of the National Philharmonic Chorale under Artistic Director Stan Engebretson for two inspiring weeks of intensive rehearsals. Experience singing in a high-quality large ensemble while fine-tuning your musicianship and developing your vocal technique! The Summer Chorale is produced through a partnership between the National Philharmonic and Montgomery College, and is led by distinguished faculty from area universities and choral groups.
Summer Chorale rehearsals are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, July 13, 15, 20, and 22. The program will culminate in a final concert, held together with the Summer Choral Institute, at Richard Montgomery High School on Friday, July 23, 2010.
No auditions are necessary but singing experience is required. Experience may include singing in a university or community chorus, or in a church choir.
Repertoire will include the new work Psalm 23 by the American composer Douglas Major and the Shaker hymn, Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal, arranged by Robert Shaw and Alice Parker. Together with the Summer Choral Institute, the Chorale will also perform folksongs and spirituals, the Vaughan-Williams Serenade to Music, Mozart's Te Deum,and Gloria from Missa Celtica by John Cameron.
Summer Chorale rehearsals are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, July 13, 15, 20, and 22 at 7 to 9:30 pm, in the Music Building of Montgomery College Rockville Campus. The final concert, held in conjunction with the Summer Choral Institute, will be on Friday, July 23, 2010 at Richard Montgomery High School. The cost of the Summer Chorale is $50, which covers all music and administrative costs.
