Andreas Makris Endowment at the National Philharmonic

Maestro Piotr Gajewski and Composer Andreas Makris

Composer Andreas Makris was a longtime friend of the National Philharmonic and of Maestro Piotr Gajewski.  Makris composed several works for the Philharmonic, including A Symphony for Soprano and Strings and Concerto for Violin and Strings.  One of his final works was the Strathmore Overture, composed for the National Philharmonic inaugural concert at Strathmore on February 12, 2005.  Unfortunately, Makris died suddenly on February 5, 2005 having never heard the work.  The Andreas Makris Endowment at the National Philharmonic has been established to promote the music of Makris and support the work of the National Philharmonic.  The Philharmonic also maintains the Andreas Makris library.
