For Immediate Release — Classical programming for the National Philharmonic’s 2021-22 season at Strathmore includes 13 subscription concerts, including three world premieres by Henry Dehlinger, Adolphus Hailstork, and Alastair Coleman; two programs that feature the Howard University Chorale; the DC-area premiere of Michael Daugherty’s Tales of Hemingway; season-opening concerts with acclaimed violinist Gil Shaham; two pops programs; and the holiday classic, Handel’s Messiah.
Music Director Piotr Gajewski looks forward to the return of in-person concerts at Strathmore, as well as a few season highlights: “I’m over-the-moon excited about leading the world premiere of Adolphus Hailstork’s new oratorio, A Knee on the Neck, next season, on a program paired with Mozart’s Requiem. We have so many fabulous singers and amazing guest artists scheduled throughout the year—it’s really a world-class season!”
Other notable season repertoire includes Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, a program devoted to symphonic works by Florence Price, Debussy’s La mer, Holst’s The Planets, Henryk Górecki’s Symphony No. 3, Op. 36 (“Symphony of Sorrowful Songs”), and more.
“I’m thrilled about our Pops programming next season, as well,” said President and CEO Jim Kelly. “Our new Principal Pops Conductor Luke Frazier will lead two concerts that feature talented singers that I really enjoy performing with because their voices have such instrumental qualities to them.”

Full-season subscriptions and choose your own 3- and 6- show packages are available at a 10-20% discount off regular ticket prices. Single tickets will go on sale later this summer.
