The Youth Mentorship Program (YMP) aims to contribute to students’ holistic growth through the vehicles of music and extramusical opportunities to connect with a diverse community of students and professional musicians. YMP is a program dedicated to serving music students from historically resilient communities and aims to serve students from across the DMV.
In addition to the performance aspect of the program, students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops focusing on life skills, college preparation and personal development. Studying an instrument requires and improves abilities such as time management, working efficiently alone and within a group, project management, etc. Within this program, instructors discuss and work on these abilities, preparing students for future tasks and various professional paths after high school.
NatPhil’s Summer String Institute immerses talented and aspiring middle school and high school string musicians in an intensive week of mentoring, chamber music coaching, individual lessons, and rehearsals.
Summer String Institutes was created in 1998 to nurture the skills and talents of young musicians and encourage their participation in classical music now and throughout their lives. Students join National Philharmonic principal players and other distinguished faculty for a challenging and exciting week focused on enriching the orchestral, chamber, and solo musician as they work on ambitious repertoire to develop true professionalism, camaraderie, and the adventure of creating great music.
Each year, the National Philharmonic performs a concert for every 2nd grader in the county, introducing over 10,000 students to the wonder of live performance.
Provided by Strathmore in partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools, these collaborative concerts provide a lesson on classical music and meet curriculum objectives for students. Strathmore Student Concerts are made possible with generous support from the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation, Geico, and Jordan Kitts Music.
Throughout the year, the National Philharmonic offers talented young musicians the opportunity to perform for and be mentored by critically acclaimed guest artists who appear in concert with the Philharmonic.
Pre-selected students perform these master classes, which are free and open to the public, providing a chance to observe master musicians sharing their experience and skills with the country’s future performers.
National Philharmonic Masterclasses are sponsored by Potter Violins.
National Philharmonic relies on the generosity of its donors to continue bringing you the music. Your contribution is critical to our continued success.
